The Ignorant Pixel

BLAKE JENSEN, FILTERED, and COOLED TO PERFECTION

Neon Cowboy

I brought two pairs of shoes down here to South America. I’ve mainly been wearing my neon orange Nike’s. They elegantly articulate, ‘I have no idea what the fuck I’m doing’. Good conversation starters though as well.

Luke and I are sucking down coffee in a Starbucks. Sounds a bit trite and anti-cultural, but I don’t care. Whenever I go to a local cafe and order coffee, they bring me shots of espresso. I’ve tried about 100 different ways to ask for a big cup of black coffee, but they keep bringing these damn thimbles half full of espresso. Even here, ordering was sort of hackneyed and I ended up making a big scene when I asked for milk in the coffee and half the place went into a frenzy attempting to decode my spanglish and deliver some sort of result.

Well, I’ve been wanting to come up with a creative, edgy way to relate what I’m doing down here in South America. The more I think though, the further I get away from actually writing anything so I figured I would just start.

Same with the camera, and pictures I’m semi/not taking. Today was the first day that I felt comfortable shlepping it around and snapping pics. I’m sure it’s probably fine in most cases, but most every traveler I’ve talked to has had a camera stolen, and I don’t want to join the club.

We went to a big street market today that they do every Sunday in BA. Best people watching I’ve ever seen, bar none. So far, the trip has been a lot of exploring the city, eating steak, meeting travelers from all over, partying excessively, and taking socks to the laundry. I go through a lot of socks.

They are kicking us out of the Starbucks now. 9pm close time. None of the operation hours really make sense to me. People here eat dinner at like 10 pm, never go out to the bars and clubs until 12:30, party until 6 or 7, and then somehow go to work at 8. Either that or they sleep until 3. Or they don’t sleep at all. Something is pretty much bangin’ 24 hours a day.

I’ll write more soon. Potentially it will be more focused. Mainly, I’m just really stoked to be traveling with Luke, and adventuring in parts unknown. Stoked, and very thankful for the opportunity, and the people that helped get me here. Cheers to all, and good hunting! - B

Some nuggets from my first couple days here. I’m staying at Milhouse Hostel in a central neighborhood of Buenos Aires, called San Telmo.

Yes thats Obama! …. Ok no, it’s not but imagine how awesome the video would be if it was.

Happy Saturday! If your in SD, I know you’ll be getting wild and enjoying your weekend. If your elsewhere, I wish you the same! Cheers - B

I did a shoot on Wednesday for my friend, fashion designer Steven Lorenzo. The model, Tiffany was a pleasure to work with, and as always, I learned a lot and had a great time. Studio work is some of my favorite because it’s a really personal, vibrant environment that you can control every aspect of. I’m including a diagram of my lighting setup for those that are interested. Cheers, and rock on!
